Hello Everyone,After taking my batteries...

Hello Everyone,

After taking my batteries out for the winter on my Sundancer 260, I ouldn't get the engine hatch to close. I searched online and didn't find any solutions other than to remove the locking pin in the hydraulic arm that lifts the hatch. I did try putting the boat on shore power by turing the cockpit main DC panel setting to "Both" and then set the main breaker panel to "Shorline" power followed by turning on the battery charger, seen the meter register to 110v. But the latch didn't work. I finally ended up polling the pin and was barely able to lift the hatch enough to pull it up....there's got to be a better way?

Don't know for sure about the 260, but on my 410, you could power the hatch through the accessory plug in the cot-pit. (cigarette lighter)

Check the fuse panel on the front engines this happened to me I found the fues had triped push it back in and all was good

for my 1999 330EC, one set of batteries power the hatch. I leave them in for last, then close hatch and use the access hatch next to the helm seat to remove that set of batteries. Not sure if you boat has that access hatch.

I have a 2006 340 and after removing the batteries I hook boat up to a source of shore power. Even with no batteries the engine hatch operates.

There should be a rocker switch under the helm where you can hook up a battery to open/close the hatch. This is how the dealer does when the boat is delivered as it does not come with the batteries when shipped.

I have a 1998 40 DA, it came with a pigtail that plugs into the 12v power adapter at the helm. I hook that up to a 12 v jump box and it back feeds the hatch lift.

My Sea Ray 300 was shipped with the batteries not connected.
I used a battery and plugged in to the 12 volt at the helm and it lifter the hatch

On my 2008 250 SLX I have a pigtail that plugs into the 12 volt adapter that you hook up to a battery-just like SGROWCHOW said above

Hello Everyone, I really appreciate the input. Unfortunelty, I was able to get the hatch issue resolved. I tried using the pigtail cigerette charger but had no luck. I plugged it into the receptical by the helm and the one in the galley; tried change the main DC power to 1, 2, and both...not success. I aslo tried shorepower with no luck. I ended up pulling the pin....see attached photos. Its possible I missed a step in the switches.

had a typo....I was not able to get the DC power to work by plugging in the cigerette lighter.

This is how I lifted the hatch manually.

When attached to shore power I also have the shore power toggle switches located in my main panel on. Inverter switch is on as well.

Are you referring to the Battery Charging switch on the main breaker panel? I did put the boat in Shorepower mode and turned the battery charger on. About 5 minutes later, tried the to activate the hydraulic lift...no power

Royalboater

Lift works off of 12volts, not sure how connecting to shore power and activating charger will activate the lift.

Scoobie
Guest Contributor
I was wondering about that but have received comments by other members saying they were able to use shorepower to lift their hatch.

On my boat a 2006 340 Sundancer there is an AC converter that will provide power to the 12 V systems when hooked to shore power. Your boat may be different.

I have a charger/converter but I it appears to be installed to just charge the batteries.

I do see a DC switch labeled "TV/12v Receptacle" on my main breaker panel. Not sure if that might allow the cigerette lighter power pack to work... Boat is now stored for the winter.

've tried both taking them out or leaving them in. There's no difference except I don't have to lift them. Most important thing is to top off the fluid and charge them. I don't even disconnect them. Batteries usually last me five seasons.

When I purchased my boat I was given a connector that you could hook to a battery in an emergency to operate the hatch. The connection was under the dash. My boat is a 370 Sundancer, so I do not know if this applies to you.

Do yourself a favor and buy some 12 guage wire to extend battery cables above the hatch so you can pull the batteries to recharge and hook a battery back up to lift the hatch in the spring. I keep them with my winterizing kit.

The hydraulic lifter is powered by the 12 volts of the batteries. If no battery, no power to the hydraulic pump. There is likely some way to hook another battery to the system under the helm area but I have no knowledge of how. The hydraulic pump works off the battery, no way to make the 110 shore power do the job.

I have a 2006 SD340 and as long as I hook into shore power and the AC converter  is on my engine hatch opens even with no batteries. I have also heard you can plug a battery into the 12V adaptor at the helm and that will provide power to the batch.

I stand somewhat corrected. If you have a A/C converter and you connect it will work to open the hatch. I made the mistake of assuming that your boat does not have a converter. The converter works as a battery.
