A recent graduate of the Marine Service Program at Impact Institute in Kendallville, Murphy will receive a $1,500 scholarship to further his education at Marine Mechanics Institute in Orlando, Florida.

“It feels great knowing there are people who want to support me on my way to building a career in the marine industry,” said Murphy. “Mercury Racing has provided me with yet another tool to help me achieve my goals. Thank you for choosing me to be the recipient of the Mercury Racing scholarship and supporting my dreams. It means the absolute world to me.”

Impact Institute is a vocational high school program serving the northeast Indiana counties of Noble, DeKalb, LaGrange, Steuben and Whitley. Led by instructor Ryan Ramsey, students at the school can complete Mercury University’s entry-level Marine Systems Technician Program and get hands-on training with a wide variety of Mercury Marine products. Graduates of the program may further their education at a secondary marine technical school or enter the workforce directly by working at a marine dealership.

“Skilled tradespeople form the backbone of our product support through our network of Mercury Racing authorized dealerships,” said Jeff Broman, Mercury Racing category director. “Without programs like Impact Institute producing the next generation of marine technicians, there would be no Wide Open lifestyle for our customers to enjoy. Our scholarship programs are an investment in the futures of these students and in the future of the marine industry. Mercury Racing is proud to support Carter’s aspirations, and we wish him the best of luck as he continues his education.”

Impact Institute held a signing day on May 14, 2024, to celebrate Murphy’s award. Attending the signing ceremony on behalf of Mercury Racing were Nick Van Nocker, Mercury University development and operations manager, and Daryl Heyboer, technical account manager/workforce development.
