Engine stops at idle... On my 2006 280 the starboard engine (320hp Merc) stops when I put her in idle. I can keep her going if I give a little more gas, but that's not practical when I'm entering the slip. Any suggestions on what to do? This is my first gas inboard

Sounds like the IAC valve. Pretty common problem.

Ditto...had same issue although I had an alarm on smartcraft display."IAC low output " Easy replacement, removed aircleaner/flame arrestor, and the IAC valve is visible. There is a small fiber filter in the tube leading to the IAC valve that you can remove with a pick and should be replaced as well.Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I will check out the IAC valve.

Any suggestions on where to buy parts like the IAC valve?

local auto parts store. Should be around 40-50 bucks, get two and have a spare on board.

Is it fuel injection or carb. In 2006 could be either. If fuel injection is good start and cheap. If carb....not cheap. Just order off line. Rebuilding marine carbs has a low success rate without acid vats to clean disassembled carbs.

Check RockAuto. I think I paid $30 when I replaced my IAC. Very easy to replace.

Does one size fit all? It is a Merc 4.3
