I have a 2000 SeaRay Signature 210. I would like to replace or supplement my analog gauges with a NMEA 2000 system including a screen that will show all the gauges plus fuel flow. I don't know enough about those to get started. Can anyone direct me to a primer that can get me started with the basics?

Garmin has a basic NMEA 2000 kit. Also, their customer service was helpful for me when I was setting up their EchoMap on my 240SD.

It all depends on your engines and whether or not they are already CAN bus enabled. If they are, most chart plotters now have a direct J1939 (CAN bus) connection, and it is easy. If not, it requires adapters to change from the analog signals to NMEA 2K. On my 2002 diesels, it required a software update in order to enable the "customer connection" point on the engines.
