I read on here that if your ignition switches aren’t working you can still start the engines from a switch on the actual engine? I have MerCruiser Horizon 8.2L ECT. Where is that switch and how do I operate?

Never seen an engine w that feature. My generator permits that local starting, but not my engines, 454 MAG MPI Horizon.

Sounds like you might be describing running a large screwdriver across both battery connections on the starter solonid in order to complete the connection.

I agree I have done this in the past.... you just have to jump the battery connectors. You can find it on top of the block. It is also called the Slave Solenoid. If your starting switch. Is not working or has been intermittent make sure that you shift throttle is in neutral if it is not it will not let the starter engage, but you will hear the fuel pump prime and the Slave Solenoid click.
