Pre-launch checklist: does anyone have a detailed check list that the 1st mate and I can put on clipboard to use prior to launching? It should include everything: engines, fuel, electrical, safety, comma, etc. Also could use a version that has an hourly section if we’re underway for extended period of time. I realized we have a great deal of anxiety about boating, always wondering if there was something we forgot to check or do.  Thanks

That is a great idea.

Why not post an initial stab at that list, then the members can provide insight for improvements or omissions?

It could be broken into stages, such as arrival, inspection, starting systems, casting off and underway.

One suggestion, disconnect shore power.

Pre departure:

Check weather forcasts

Before starting engines:
Check fluids: oil, antifreeze, gear(if check when engine off)

Start engines for warm-up:
If gear needs to be checked running now is the time to do it.
Check for any major leaks; raw water, antifreeze, oil etc.

Power on electronics:
Chart plotter, sounder etc
Program route if going into unfamiliar territory

Unhook shore power, water lines, cable/antenna lines.

Check wind direction

Untie from dock.

Enjoy the ride.

While underway pay attention to gauges and alarms,

If you are underway for more than 30 mins with no problems you likely didn't miss anything important.

Here is mine:

1. Check weather
2. Check fluid levels
3. Start engines
4. Remove and stow seat covers
5. Remove hatch and windshield covers
6. Secure interior cabin
7. Close windows and hatches
8. Remove anchor catch
9. Single-up dock lines
10. Clean windshield
11. Check throttle and gear controls
12. Disconnect shore power
13. Life vests
14. Stow fenders
15. Leave dock lines on dock
16. Turn on VHF and back-up
17. Turn on autopilot
18. Turn on GPS
19. Turn on Cummins Smartcraft
20. Turn on Radar
21. Switch refrigerator to DC
