An evolution in competitive fishing

For over 12 years Team ProMarine has travelled and competed at the highest level in competitive Kingfish events.  Having built a rather stout resume with wins and top 5 finish’s throughout the southeast coastal areas from North Carolina to Louisiana the team has pulled the 36’ and 39’ Mercury Racing powered Yellowfins to dozens of tournament every year.

Since back in the early 2000’s this team  has powered their tournament boats with Mercury and Mercury Racing power.  Back in the 80’s a 28’ twin engine center console was considered a top runner in the tournament scene and now triple, quad and quint engine 36’ and up to 44’ center consoles are common at these events.  When the fleet is released at first light to head out to the fishing spot it is a high horsepower race to be the first to the spot.  Running 70+ MPH for sometimes over 150 miles these boats, engines and crew are put to the test.  Rough seas, heavy loads of fuel and gear on board and a crew of 3 to 6 anglers make the run to chase the biggest fish in the tournament.  ProMarine has always been at the front of the pack with their fishing center console boats rigged and maintained like a race boat. “ We take pride in getting there first and equally as important getting back to the scales on time without breakdowns” Capt Jim Naset commented.

When setting up the boat we set out to prove that the Mercury Racing products were not only the answer to getting there fast but the reliability was exceptional in the tournament fishing conditions.  A typical day could be a 150 mile Wide Open run then 8 continuous hours of slow speed idle trolling followed by a fast run back to the scales logging 12 to 14 hours on the motors.  We chose Mercury Racing 400R’s on the 36’ Yellowfin then when we upgraded to a 39 Yellowfin we stepped up the Quad 450R’s.  80+ MPH with dependability and warranty just cant beat it.  We have put over 750 hours on the 450R’s in these tough conditions without failure.
