I have a 2003 420 Dancer with Deisel engines. Both alternators have gone out and I have been told that running the battery charger while the engines are running will burn up the alternators. Has anyone experienced this?

I have the same davit with a 10.5 dingy that has a 20HP Merc on it. It takes a bit of pushing, but the winch pulls it right up. I have to extend the winch out all the way to get it far enough up on the boat.
I had some issues with mine that turned out to be low batteries and bad alternator that was not powering the cellanoids. The gauges would also would go out. New batteries and new alternator took care of the issue.
