I am in an insurance claim process now. This definitely sounds like it could be a claim insurance will pay. Let them negotiate what they want to pay for the drive.
I had the same issue. Aftermarket swim platform conceals the factory HIN. One lender wouldn’t give me a loan because of it. But found another lender. Easier than taking off the swim platform for an inspection. I have a 2013 310.
