Mercury Racing Awards Scholarships Supporting Skilled Trades Education

Mercury Racing does not appear out of thin air. Hundreds of skilled people are involved in the design and manufacture of Mercury Racing products. Recognizing the importance of supporting the next generation, Mercury Racing annually awards three scholarships intended to support students pursuing a career in skilled trades.

“Mercury Racing relies on skilled tradespeople in every aspect of our business, from testing and manufacturing engines, drives and propellers to the installation and maintenance of our products at the network of Mercury Racing authorized dealerships,” said Mercury Racing General Manager Stuart Halley. “Through these scholarships we are making an investment in the future of these students and in the future of the marine industry.”

“This scholarship means a lot to me, especially when it can pay for almost my entire college tuition,” said Binkelman. “It feels extremely satisfying to win this scholarship knowing that I've achieved something I could only dream of.”

Impact Institute Education Scholarship
In 2023 Mercury Racing issued two $1,500 scholarships for high school students enrolled in the Marine Services Technology program at Impact Institute, a vocational career training center located in Kendallville, Indiana, and serving thirteen school corporations in five northeast Indiana counties. The program typically enrolls 25 to 32 students a year and is a two-year program open to high school juniors and seniors. Mercury Marine is also a partner of the program, providing engines for testing, parts, and training materials. The annual Mercury Racing Education Scholarships are available to high school/home school junior and senior students with good academic standing who live within the five-county area served by Impact Institute.

The 2023 scholarships are awarded to Mackenzie Porin of Fremont High School and Carter Murphy of East Noble High School. McKenzie Pornin, Impact Institute Scholarship recipient.McKenzie Pornin, Impact Institute Scholarship recipient.
