Replaced my 07 290 radio and yes the factory installed main base of radio was behind the dash. Was a pain to remove and reinstalled a similar garmin radio
First thing to look at is the impeller if not discharging any water then fins either bad or impeller spinning freely. Usually should get some type of code or fault.
