Second battery location for my 2004 200 Select.

For these smaller boats, weight distribution is important.  I want to add a second battery and I'm considering putting a second battery on the side opposite the original battery.   The original battery is on the port side under the seat near the transom in the aft of the boat.  There is certainly adequate space on the starboard side.  Has anybody done this and if so were there any issues?

I just added a second battery to my 1997 215 EC. The original was in a similar position to yours, it sounds, so I put in a new battery tray on the opposite side of the original (starboard side). Then wired in the battery switch on that side as well. Great addition to the power system. Make sure you keep the automatic bilge pumps wired direct, as well as the stereo presets so you don't have to hunt for stations every time you turn the radio on.

I would like to do the same on my 1995 180 BR however I only see a red and a black wire coming off the original battery and going into a wire cover. I can't see any positive bus so do not know how or were to separate the starter motor from the rest of the circuits. Has any one added a second battery on a 180 and can tell me were to break into the circuits in order to isolate the starter motor from the running lights and any assessory switches??

I have 2005 200 Sundeck, put in a second battery behind the original, but went with agms. I think they are lighter than lead.

I also installed Bennett trim tabs, completely a different boat.
