I have 2007 240 Sun Deck. When putting the throttle into the forward position there can be anywhere from a 2 to 10 second delay in the boat actually going into gear and moving forward. When putting the throttle in the reverse position, the boat immediately reacts and moves backwards. Any thoughts?

Change the lower unit oil.
Check the shift cable adjustment. Replace the shift cable if required.

I replaced the shift cable and the lower unit oil about a year ago and the problem is still occurring. I will inquire about getting the cable adjusted, would I need to adjust the upper part of the cable or the lower part?
