Installing fuel flow sensor on twin-engine boat

I'm planning installation of a single Lowrance NMEA 2000 fuel-flow sensor between the single-fuel tank and the electric valves on the two fuel lines on Sundancer 280. The valves have two separate hoses connected to the same tank. Since I'm interested in the total fuel consumption regardless of whether either or both engines are running I think to cut these hoses in the middle and insert two Y-type combiners before and after the flow sensor. The sensor is optimized for flow rates between 0.6 and 45 gal/hr adding up to 1 PSI backpressure at 45 gal/hr. Of course, the extra 3/8" short hoses at the ends of the sensor are A1-15 and all connections are secured with dual stanless steel hose clamps. Does anyone have similar setup? Any recommendation?
