1993 Searay 440 twin Cat 3208's.  Looking at major repairs on starboard engine, likely remanufactured and extensive on port engine.  Any suggestions as to where to get reman engines - 375 horsepower? and parts ?  Boat is in eastern Ontario.

Remans will run at least $20k usd each, plus freight to get them up here...do you have a mechanic who can do the work?

Cat does not make remans for this as far as I know from the factory. You need to contact your local Cat dealer and they may do some remand or have the ability to source one for you. But first you should have them do a full analysis to see what the problem is. Those engines are pretty bullet proof and the need for a reman is mainly if you had a major damage like a dropped valve or stuck piston. Cat does make a 3116 or 3126 reman engine but would take some work to a pair installed.

The 3208 is a dry sleeve engine. If you have any piston damage then you would have to re sleeve meaning you would have to pull it out to do, It was a good engine the main problem as with a lot of cats is a wrist pin failure caused by running the engine over rpm. I would find a good retired Cat mechanic that has the ability to pull and re do the engine or find a replacement engine. This engine was also used in some trucks so if it is a block then you might find one at some truck supply and hang your marine components on it. If it is a wrist pin your block could be good. What will cost you is the labor. Get a good Cat mechanic to look at it lots of time just running it he can diagnose it by listing to it however a fuel knock and a wrist pin knock sound about same, This engine is no longer manufactured but it was a good engine.
