tachometer replacement

Hey all,

Recently purchased my '99 260 bow rider with the 7.4L MPI (L29 i believe) and bravo 3 drive.  Boat is what i would consider mint for the age. Gelcoat in near perfect shape, always rack stored, never left in the water for more than a day or two at a time. Everything functions on the boat with the exception of the hour meter within the Tach. It has the old school mechanical hour meter so i think its just gotten bounced around a few too many times. Anyway, im looking at buying the replacement tach with the digital meter and was curious if the ECU on these motors stores the engine hours? If so does anyone know an easy way to "wind up" the new guage so it matches with the actual engine hours. Obviously not a huge deal if i have to start from 0 but i would like to know how many hours are truly on the motor. Gauge reads 269 and the boat is certainly clean enough to support that but would like to have the peace of mind.
