I've a 2008 240 sundeck 5.0, that when I first head out the transmission engages properly, but once it's been run awhile and I go to neutral and back into forward it doesn't engage until about 1000 rpm.  Reverse works fine.  Is this  likely a linkage adjustment or something more costly?

Who maintains / repairs the boat, you or the shop?

If you, what does the service manual say about that condition? What does it say about the shifter adjustment?

Does it engage w a normal sound at 1,000 rpm?

I like to do what small mntce that I can do myself. For the larger issues I will need a reputable mechanic. This particular problem i am not sure of and haven't read anything in any of the manuals to help. It does run quietly and normal once engaged a 1000 rpm. The problem only occurs once the engine has warmed up.

The starting point is to verify that the shift linkage is set properly, per the manual.

Also ensure that fluid levels are good, not contaminated and maintained per the manual.

The same applies to lubrication points.

Thanks for the input. I'm looking up the info on settings. The fluid levels and conditions look good.

Here are topics showing an easy cable adjustment to fix a similar Bravo 3 shift problem.

Bravo 3 uses a cone clutch located in top section of transom. First step would be to drain and refill foot. And make sure small tank in engine compartment is also full. With reverse having proper engagement likely not a linkage issue. 08 should have all electronic linkage, but still worth checking. If it's not fluid or slim possibility of linkage likely cone clutch will need to be replaced
