I have a 1997 370 Aft Cabin that had gas engines and was converted by the previous owner to diesels in 2002. The issue is when I used to start the engines the alarm/buzzer would sound until the engines started, now I don't get any alarm/buzzer and I've gone under the helm looking for a small speaker or similar and can't find anything.

What makes the alarm/buzzer sound?

Thanks,

Oliver

It is part of the systems monitor system. Very likely, the people who did the re-power didn't realize there were one or more senders on the engine/transmission that were part of the systems monitor circuit and just didn't move them from the old engine to the new one.

You will need a schematic for the gas version and another for the diesel version (although t hey may be the same) and several hours identifying and tracing wire color codes to figure out what sender(s) you have and which you do not.

Start at the oil sending units on the engines, and make sure they are hooked up.

Hi fwebster & wicked1, I don't thing it has anything to do with the sending units from the engines because both of these alarms were working fine. But the alarms for the port and starboard engines stopped working at the same time which makes me think it has to do with the speaker the alarm comes from - is there a speaker under the helm that produces the alarm/buzzer sound?

sorry, misread the post. I highly doubt both buzzers went bad at the same time. blown fuse, or the controller for the alarms is bad, loose, corroded wire(s). Probably the controller or fuse, being that they both stopped working simul. Most boats over the years have had RE wiring of things, incorrectly, to bypass, or get by. This makes it very difficult, to find electrical problems. I just had the same thing happen on my 370 db twin cummins. No start, buzzers, no ignition. after much time spent , finally found a fuse that had been added/hidden, it was undersized x 5 amps.
