You might have a broken shift cable. That is a wire that connects from the throttle down the back of the engine and through the hull out to the outdrive. I've experienced a broken cable on my boat with DTS and with the cable broken, it merely becomes a digital throttle. The cable can be disconnected at the throttle end and pull the wire. If the wire can be pulled , it is either broken or disconnected at the drive. It shouldn't be able to be pulled. A cheap check to ensure that part of the system is intact, or.not.

As WickedRx indicated, the shift cable goes from the drive through the bell housing and transom, into the engine compartment to the top of my engine. There is a utube video on bravo 3 drive repair that shows how to repair/replace the shift cable. If it's broken, you can probably pull it on the engine side and it will probably pull the cable completely out.

Had something similar, it was the prop shaft.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Appreciate the help trying to figure it out. The issue turned out to be a failed shift actuator.

Two options. The more likely one is that the DTS shift actuator has failed. Second is the lower shift cable as mentioned above. Easy to diagnose. As the motor is running shift into gear while watching the actuator, if it is. It moving, it failed. If it is moving and the cable is moving with it at the actuator, likely the cable failed.
