Have a 2004 Sea Ray 260 Sundancer and would like to add a generator.

What is the best, inexpensive way of doing this?

How about mounting a carry- on in the engine room? Would there be problems with the exhaust, overheating, etc.?

Thanks

Yeah people die every year from portable generators on boats, the only way I’d use one is beached with the generator on the shore. https://www.pbo.co.uk/news/warning-about-dangers-of-portable-generators-onboard-24937

A couple on Lake Erie and their dog just died recently too from CO from a portable generator, but I couldn’t find the story.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is pretty much the first thing people think about when it comes to safely using a portable generator on a boat, but there are other hazards as well. Unlike campers and other land based uses, a boat utilizes a bonding system that all electrical/electronic components need to be connected to in order to prevent backfeed, etc.
While the threat of Co poisoning is enough to deter me all by itself, the thought of electrocuting myself or creating an electrically charged field in the water around my boat is also sobering.
