Hey guys .. im relatively new to the boating world... i bought a 2017 spx 190 stern drive .. in the 3 summer seasons we’ve had it out in we have just had a string of little problems.  Recently ive noticed some gel coat cracking on the moulded steps and also one where the swim deck meets the main portion of the boat.. ive contacted the dealer and sent pics and waiting to hear back just trying to get a heads up if yall think it will be covered under the hull warranty ..

Hello gib2000, the pic is a bit grainy and part of the crack is out of focus however, based upon what I see the crack looks to be on a focal point of stress and is too wide to be a failure of the gelcoat (spider cracks). This leads me to believe it is a structural failure of the reinforcement (the fiberglass). However, I can’t say conclusively based upon this info. Can you upload better pics?

Looks like a common stress crack to me. Stress cracks occur in the gelcoat in places where t he gelcoat is thicker than other nearby areas. They typically occur in spots like yours where the mold is concave and gelcoat pools in the radius of the curve. Stress cracks are typically not considered structural and are excluded from your structural warranty. Make a list of where they are and ask the dealer to repair all at the same time most of the time Sea Ray will cover a group of them for a newer boat owner as a customer accommodation........it is worth a try anyway.

Thanks for the reply fwebster.. yeah all but one is in a concave where it could pool a little i guess. Since ive noticed them i havnt seen them get bigger..and the one on the swimdeck was within the first year bit due to all the problems i talked about before the dealer had possession of my boat longer than i did after i bought it fixing stuff so i didnt want to loose more lake time so i told them to take a picture and put it on file ..so hopefully they will give me some good news and i can take it and drop it off in the fall after the season is over
