I have 86 Sundancer and windlass chain got jammed up and after getting straight, it no longer goes up or down.

It was jammed in the water and I ran it up and down several times until it died and we just dragged it in after retrieving most of it.

Anybody know how to access where chain is stored. Is the area directly below the wench it ? There does not seem to be any way to access.

Why not update your profile to completely identify the boat, with year, length, model, engine and location?

There are different 86 Sundancer models, prohibiting providing an informed response.

Short answer, after the windlass, the rode is moved by gravity, the the locker is directly below the windlass.

Most have access on top, at the deck next to the windlass.

Some have access from the cabin, by removing a forward panel.

Sorry, just joined few months ago and will have to go back and fill out the rest of my profile. All the prior owner said was Sundancer 260.
Thanks for the feedback, looks like the chain locker is accessible behind a mirror but not from top next to windlass.

You could have blown a breaker for windlass by overheating it when jammed usually under dash

There is a fuse in control circuit and in power circuit, if you hear clicking when you try it could be power fuse or breaker, clicking is solenoids which transmit power, if power fuse is ok, solenoid contacts could be burnt off, hopefully motor is ok, good luck

Thanks Big Mike and Kak, motor did click but nothing now. I will check under dash and toggle switches were not activating windlass on a consistent basis.

My 94 300 Sundancer has a circuit breaker located behind an upholstered panel under the starboard gunnel. It's hard to find- look for a pull strap to open it - I can post a picture if it would be helpful.

Thanks JRT, Mine has two switches, one releases and the other one raises and lowers the anchor. For now we wired both together and seems to work fine. The switch is bad on the other side and can be replaced but dont see any downside. Let me know if there is any problem from the one step approach.
Thanks!
