My hubby and I have a 1999 40 SeaRay Sundancer with Caterpillar diesel engines. We are having problems with the salon air conditioner and getting it to go on by itself when it needs to adjust temperature. We are fairly certain it is a relay problem, but we cannot locate the relay that operates this system and the shared pump. We believe it is in the engine compartment, but because this boat has some options other 40 footers didn't we know the boat set up has been slightly modified and some equipment moved around. This particular boat came with a bow thruster, and it was not an aftermarket piece of equiment, so that has caused several things to be modified. If anyone has any idea where that relay may be located, we would greatly appreciate any tips or thoughts you have about finding and repairing it. Thanks!

On my 2000 380DA there is an electrical box hidden in the salon w/ the relay switch modules for the AC. The electrical box may be populated w/ three relay switch modules, but my boat only has two air conditioners, so there are only two relay switch modules.

On my boat the electrical box is accessed by unscrewing and removing the aft vertical salon cushion.

These relay switch modules provide a Boolean OR logic function, turning on the AC raw water pump when either of the AC units is active.

When mine failed the relay went bad. It is possible to either replace the entire module, or get an identical relay, from a company like Digi-Key, and un-soldering the bad relay and re-soldering the new relay.

Can you tell me where that box is hidden. We did look there and we hired a company that could not find it, however they were less than competent!

On my boat it is hidden behind the vertical aft salon cushion, shown in this image.

The bottom of the vertical cushion is unscrewed, the cushion raised to disengage the downward-facing pegs at the top of the cushion, retaining the top to the cabinet shelf.

On the 400Da and 410Da the trigger control box is going to be very near the salon compressor unit. Start looking under the bottom cushions on the salon sofa. If it isn't there, it is probably mounted behind the upper cushion on the salon sofa. All of the boat's AC units have a small wire harness that run to a white control box that contain all of the triggers for the AC circulating pump.

You probably only need the trigger for the salon unit, but I haven't master posting photos yet, so this is a link to the control box you are looking for:
