We just purchased a 1989 440 aft cabin. We are starting to see barnacles in the AC pump strainer and had a friend suggest putting clorine tablets in the strainer as a preventive measure. Anyone have pros or cons for this or any other suggestions?

hi i have been using bromo tablets from swimming pool store ,here in south florida you need to clean the strainers out every month .i made a plastic tool to get them off the glass off ,,

Go with the bromide tablets. Pretty sure chlorine would eat up your metal over time.

Thank you for your reply. The boat sat for over a month before we bought it and the barnacles were throughout the whole AC system. We ended up flushing with Barnacle buster to clear the system and put bromine tablets in the strainer. We were also advised to do a fresh water flush every month.
