Does anyone know how I remove the side panels on a 290 SS below the speakers?  I have pulled the speakers and access panels and can find no screws.

Welcome to the forum.

Those panels are retained by "Christmas tree" fasteners.

They push on and pull off.

Thanks much - suspected as much but was afraid to pull too hard. Got them off but now I need to find new fasteners.

Fasteners are almost always reusable.
