Depth Sounder Rocker Switch

The dash on my 1998 Searay Sundancer 290 has a rocker switch labeled Depth Sounder. I can't figure out what it does. I use my Garmin GPS to inform me of the water's depth but would like to know what that dash switch is for.

According to the linked 2001 Owners Manual (closest available to the 1998 290SDA), on page 17 of 42 the switch goes to a three wire pigtail. The three wires are dimmable dash illumination, switched power and ground.

Look under the dash for a group of three dangling unterminated wires, colored blue, red/violet and black. These wires originate at the accessory switch panel.
