Help needed.  I just put on a new starter and I seem to be missing the purple and yellow wire that goes to the left side of the cylinoid.  I didn't see it on the old started but watching some video's it seems as though I should have one.  Not sure where it goes either.  Could anybody tell me if I need this wire and where to locate this illusive wire.  Thanks in advance.

Looked through your info and posts, what engine(s) on the boat?

Thanks! It's the Mercruiser 5.7, I don't know what 260-M means?

When I examine the wiring diagram for the 5.7L the starter solenoid has a red/purple on one side, a yellow/red on the other side, a yellow/red on the control and a black on the other control.

The correct Factory Service Manual (FSM) is a required tool for properly performing service on the engine.

This appears to the the correct parts link for that engine.

The Mercury Service Manual Number 24 covers Marine Engines GM V-8 305 CID (5.0L) and 350 CID (5.7L), 90-861327.

This is a required tool for proper maintenance of the engine. It includes the wiring diagrams, plus everything else to repair and maintain the engine.
