Hey folks, I have another one.

This past summer was a learning experience for me. I've been away from the water for 25 years and just bought my '01 , 310 DA last spring.

I started noticing a "growling" noise in the port engine(area)

Mechanic says it's "gear lash" in the trans. Any thoughts?, or does anyone have any experience with something similar?

I was encouraged to "tune it out", and not to worry about it.

The port and starboard transmissions are designed to provide full thrust in both forward and reverse.

The shift cables are routed so the shift levers for each side make the output spin opposite directions in forward.

My port always makes a light clattering sound when unloaded.

That audible difference is widely reported, so yours is probably also fine.

Check the fluid level according to instructions. Change the fluid and filter according to schedule.

Thank you...thats reassuring. Needless to say, unidentifiable noise in the engine room are worrisome.
