Hi All! I own a 2008 SR 290 AJ. It is powered by twin 5.0 liter Mercruiser V-8s. I got a fuel injector error message in the display on the tachometer of one of the engines. The injectors and the fuel delivery rail were replaced. The plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap, and rotor are all new. The injectors are all working and the motor runs smoothly and has excellent power. Does an error code like that need to be cleared by the appropriate scanner? The error sure is persistent and the alarm is annoying!!!

Is the error showing on the tachometer or on a system monitor?

There are very few error codes that persist w/ an alarm assertion, after the detected fault has passed. It is likely that if an alarm is active then the fault is actively being detected.

A correct engine code reader is a very handy tool.

It says “fuel injector” in the display on the corresponding tach. Sorry for the double post. I entered a moment of delirium!!

Yes, I would have the engine interrogated w/ an appropriate scanner to find out why it is not happy.

It is theoretically possible for the engine to measure the injector coil resistance and then alert for an out-of-range condition. Maybe that is why it is complaining.

If that is the problem, then that measurement is also possible using a multimeter one at a time on each unplugged coil terminal set.

It was not too bad. I got the parts via eBay. I will have to look up the spec for the resistance of an injector coil. Thanks very much!

I HAVE A 05 340 DA with 8.1's that had a problem error alarm code that the local authorized mercruiser guy tried to fix by replacing both water pressure sensors. Did not fix the problem after charging $500 for computer diagnostics and sensor replacement. I was not willing to let these guys milk this issue for more money and purchased the DIACOMM package from Rinda Technologies for about $600 which you can hook up to your laptop. Turns out it was the IAC valve after all on one engine and an easy D I Y fix. Probably already paid for itself.
