What year, engine and what problems are you experiencing?

I had an issue with the cool fuel module on my port engine, a 2008 8.1S Horizon. It had a water leak and was slowly filling the bilge. It was replaced, but not covered by warranty. According to my conversation with Mercruiser, they will cover the part, only if the problem stems from interior coatings flaking off and causing high fuel pressure. Corrosion-related issues or leaks are not covered. It was $1,211 for the module plus several hours labor for me.

My same model port engine in my 2000 340 does the same thing as Wingless described. I never heard of the "good will warranty." Is there another searay stream addressing this issue. If a complaint is sent to Searay, does it automatically send out the replacement part? Thanks

Sea Ray won’t be able to help. You or an authorized Mercruiser dealer will have to go directly to Mercruiser to get an answer on whether they’ll cover your module under their parts warranty.

Makes sense that I should contact Mercruiser. Thanks for the info. Wingless, is the heat extraction system you designed utilize a bilge blower, tied into a programmable 12 volt thermostat? Your advice is always welcome

My experience was that running the OEM engine room blowers didn't have any effect on heat soak vapor lock.

My solution was to design and install a thermostatically controlled heat extraction system, drawing air from up high, on top of the engines.

My system uses a 12VDC thermal controller and a 10kOhm NTC thermistor to sense the engine room temperature, with 4"
220cfm Yellowtail blowers ducted to the exterior, all using UL rated ductwork.

The thermistor wire was extended to reach the controller located at the helm using shielded and properly grounded wiring. The blowers are properly fused.

The system toggles on and off automatically to maintain the setpoint engine compartment temperature.

To be clear, the existing OEM engine room exhaust draws from the bottom of the engine compartment, because gasoline fumes are heavier than air and the blowers must exhaust those fumes, if they exist.

But heat rises, so sucking air from the bottom is the worst place to help with decreasing the engine compartment temperature. That is why I suck from above the engines.

These images show that I removed the side panels to add two additional fittings , retaining the existing two fittings for the blowers sucking from the bottom, plus adding two more for the heat exhaust blowers sucking from above the engines.

Note that the fitting pipe is too long, so I cut it shorter, as-shown.
