I just had an awesome two week trip on Lake Huron cut short by a snapped prop shaft. Scared the hell out me when it went…limped in on one motor over 30 miles. The thing is, this didn’t seem surprising to anyone I contacted for replacement. Is anyone aware of a service bulletin or campaign regarding the hardness of these shafts and their subsequent failure? I have an ‘06 38 Dancer with 8.1 Horizons. Planning on replacing both to avoid re-visiting this misadventure.
After 22 yrs in service on my 1990 390EC 1 of my shafts failed in the keyway for the prop. Looked like corrosion creep. Upgraded both shafts to Aquamet 22 which is harder, more corrosion resistant, and more expensive than the original shafts
